Upper School Choral Program
Program, all classes are year-long
Choraliers (P, H)
Beginning and intermediate students are college prep. Advanced students may be Honors (with permission of instructor only.) A full year of involvement is required. Enrollment requires audition. Grades 9-12
Festival Singers (P, H)
Beginning and intermediate students are prep. Advanced students may be Honors (with permission of instructor only). A full year of involvement is expected. Enrollment requires audition. Grades 11-12
AP Music Theory
This course focuses on the continued development and building of the skills necessary for students who are preparing for a career in music. The course concentrates on the study of harmony while also stressing ear training, terminology, and music notation. A strong background in music reading is highly recommended; a background in piano study, while not required, is also helpful. Enrollment requires permission of instructor. Grades 11-12

Mrs. Suzanne Woodruff
Mrs. Woodruff teaches choral music and the seventh grade general music classes. From the fall of 1994 until the spring of 2005, she taught general music and chorus at Woodward's Busey Campus. Previously, she taught choral music in Clayton County at Riverdale Junior High School. She is a graduate of Woodward Academy and holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Georgia and a Master of Music degree from Georgia State University. She is a certified music educator in Orff and Kodaly methods. Mrs. Woodruff lives in Fayetteville, Georgia with her husband, Tim and their three children, Sara, Ross, and Kathryn. Mrs. Woodruff and her family attend New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
Mr. Stephen Rotz
Stephen Rotz, a native of York Springs, Pennsylvania, is choral director and music theory instructor for Woodward Academy. He holds degrees from the University of Alabama and from Shorter College, where he was a First Honor Graduate. Prior to pursuing his graduate degree, Mr. Rotz was a charter faculty member at Creekland Middle School in Cherokee County, Georgia, where his choirs were recognized for their excellence. He has also been a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and served as a church music director. As a soloist, he has frequently won recognition from the National Association of Teachers of Singing, most frequently as the 2006 regional (Florida, Georgia, and Alabama) winner in both classical and musical theatre categories for graduate men. Mr. Rotz and his wife, Joy, reside in College Park.
