Upper School Choral Program
The Choral Music Program at Woodward Academy exists to enrich and educate its students in many ways. Students will study secular and sacred repertoire of various time periods, ranging from the Renaissance through the Contemporary. Through the study of this repertoire, students will be instructed in and gain facility in the healthy production of vocal tone, certain linguistic skills, performance practice, historical and cultural context, various choral techniques, the ability to sing at sight, and collaborative artistry. It is the goal of this program to empower the students to participate in, enjoy, and intelligently discuss music for the entirety of their adult lives..

The Woodward Academy Upper School Choral Music Program has a long tradition of excellence. The program consists of four choirs, the Treble Choir, the Choraliers, the Festival Singers, and the Festival Chorale. In addition, the program includes three ensembles, the Jazz Choir, the Male a cappella Ensemble, and Camerata. The groups present two major concerts each year in the Woodward Academy Gresham Chapel. Also, each year, the singers participate in the Georgia Music Educator’s Large Group Performance Evaluation. Also, the groups are featured at many school functions.

Rehearsals
Festival Singers, Treble Choir, and Choraliers rehearse every day while Camerata and Jazz Choir rehearse on Thursday evenings.

School performances include a regular winter and spring concerts, school assemblies and special ceremonies, and GMEA Choral Festival. Every other year, the Choral Program takes a Tour Choir to Europe. In June of 2008, forty one Woodward choral students traveled to Venice, Salzburg, and Vienna.
